Business Week si-a dat obstescul sfarsit. Bun. O revista aproape inutila in peisajul publicistic romanesc.

Dear BusinessWeek Team,
It is with a huge regret that I should announce that we are not issuing any more the Romanian edition of BusinessWeek. The potential investors we are talking to did not respect todays’ deadline. We simply don’t have any more the necessary cashflow to be able to pay the bills, salaries and production costs. The last few months were very hard on us with almost no advertising in our magazines. As an independent publisher, we could not sustain any more bleeding cash without knowing how long this global crisis will affect our market.
We also face great competition from three other local business magazines financed by "local moguls" that want to build their own media portfolio to protect themselves from bad press. The last one to enter the Romanian market is a license from Forbes, and it is financed by the richest man in Romanian, Dinu Patriciu, that made his fortune in the Oil & Gas business. Ironically, those magazines have an internet and mobile presence as well, while we were not allowed to have a Romanian BusinessWeek web site, which is in contradiction with all the innovation manifesto that BusinessWeek stands for… This was a big disadvantage, as the web would have helped us create bigger brand awareness, and more interaction with our readers, and an extension to the magazine…
To say that I am a huge fan of BusinessWeek and all what it represents would be an understatement. I have been reading this magazine from when I was a teenager at home, and the last few years I have been following very closely its evolution, in print, on the web, on twitter, etc… And bringing BusinessWeek to Romania was the peak of my publishing career.
I am sure that your main concern, from your point of view, is what to do next… Although we are still facing financial difficulties and being unable to respect the salaries deadlines, if anybody is still interested to work in the group, please let me know. Otherwise, you can discuss with Mioara for the formalities in case you want to resign.
Please feel free to contact me. I am available on Monday and Tuesday for individual meetings.
